I write from experience. I write what I am feeling. I am sharing my thoughts and perspectives in hopes at least one person who reads this will relate to the words on these pages.
To my overthinkers. The ones who self-sabotage because we think it’s easier to end our relationships with people before they do it to us. The ones who care but pretend not to because we’ve been let down after confessing how we really feel toward others. I hope one day you are glad things ended when they did because you deserve more. You deserve people in your life who don’t have you feeling confused every time you ask them how they feel about you.
To those on a self-love journey. Please know there is no finish line. It is not a race. There will be ups and downs but remember you are so special— you ARE worthy of all the self-love you are choosing to give yourself.
To my hopeful romantics. Keep that optimism close. When you least expect it, the love you desire will enter your life. You will realize why it never worked out before.
To those who had a plan. Life probably did what it does best and chose not to go according to plan. You keep going. If it didn’t work out how you wanted, then trust there is better ahead for you.
From me to you, it could go wrong, but it can also go right. Anticipate good things coming.
Little Miss hurts her own feelings. As much as she wanted to blame him, she couldn’t because he told her he wasn’t looking for anything serious. Little Miss mad at herself for staying after she knew he didn’t want anything more. Little Miss likes the chase. Little Miss thought she could change his mind about her. Little Miss settled for situationships because she couldn’t speak up about her boundaries. Little Miss thought she could go with the flow, but that mentality got her nowhere but another Instagram follower. Little Miss caught feelings because of the fake scenarios in her head. Little Miss fell for the potential once again.
My intuition has never been wrong.
Until it blindsided me about him.
Once upon a time, I broke my own heart.
I made the mistake of trusting a man’s word
instead of paying attention to his actions.
Lesson learned
I should’ve listened to myself in the beginning
because I caught feelings for someone
I knew would end up becoming temporary.
I know you are tired. Tired of being disappointed. Not disappointment in them, but in yourself because every time you think, “maybe this one will go well for me,” you get excited and imagine how beautiful it could be. But they are never on the same page. This happens one too many times and it makes you think, “maybe I am the problem without a solution.” There’s a saying, better alone than with bad company, which I agree with. But what do I do if I might be the one who does not know how to choose?
I don’t appreciate when people sugarcoat, so why did I ever sugarcoat my own feelings with him? I tried so hard to embody a nonchalant persona, but there is nothing nonchalant about me. I tried to keep it cool, but all I wanted to do was make time on my days off to spend with you. I asked how you were doing because I genuinely cared, but it was unfortunate when I could tell I was the only one who cared to begin with.
Have you ever been stung by a bee?
Did you believe you were the right person for someone? You knew that they knew how good you were for them, but they did not care. Or maybe they did but not enough. Did you tell them how you felt and they replied with, “I don’t feel the same way?”
A bee stinging and those scenarios give the same feeling because they both hurt—they both sting.
He made me feel like a broken record. I was constantly repeating to my friends how he was so different from the rest. “This time it’s different,” I’d say. Again and again. It got to a point where I was only defending him because if I didn’t, then I knew that meant I’d be admitting to my friends I was the fool who decided to settle. He had my ego wrapped around his finger because I somehow allowed myself to go through with it all rather than accept that I was wrong for thinking he was the one. I had to break the loop—this cycle I was willingly putting myself through. I knew I should’ve walked away the moment I felt like I deserved more. Note to self: when you think you deserve more, it’s probably because you do.
