Introduction

In an age that has given us so many opportunities and methods of disconnecting from ourselves, I truly believe that it is important to learn how to create rituals in our everyday lives that help us come back home to who we are. When we look into ourselves—we know ourselves—and when we are honest and vulnerable with ourselves, we can better approach our healing and our lives in a way that truly feeds into the person we hope to become.

In merging daily gratitude and energy activities alongside deeper weekly prompts that encourage you to dig into your heart, your past, your stories, and your healing, I hope this journal truly helps make your mind a more peaceful place to be. I hope this journal helps you to make gratitude and awareness a theme in your everyday life—that it helps you see just how important it is to check in and be gentle with yourself on your journey.

If I have learned anything of importance throughout the lightest and the darkest moments that life has sent my way, it is that there is beauty to be found in gratitude. There is growth to be found in understanding what feeds and depletes our soul. There is strength to be found in going in the direction of those things and in letting go of what only asks for us to settle or silence the parts of ourselves that know we are worthy of more. There is love to be found in sitting with ourselves, being vulnerable with ourselves, and finding acceptance not only in who we have been and the experiences that have shaped us but also in who we are growing into.

I hope these rituals become a part of your daily life. I hope they help you be more present with yourself and how you deeply feel. I hope they help you forgive; I hope they help you to let go and find your own closure. I hope they help you to see yourself in a different light and to re-write your stories. I hope these daily moments crack your heart open. I hope these reflections remind you to find beauty in even the smallest things—to wake up each morning and think about the magic that exists in being alive, in having another day to crash your heart into this world. I hope these pages motivate you to really see what is deserving of your attention, what is deserving of your energy, and what is deserving of your love. I hope these pages help you be kinder and softer with yourself. I hope these pages help you to do the work in a way that feels constructive and tender, in a way that is sustainable and encouraging. I hope that these pages remind you just how far you have come. I hope these pages help you to believe in where you are going. I hope they help you to embrace the human being you are becoming.

Sincerely, BIANCA SPARACINO

How to use The Becoming Journal

Each week is divided into different activities. From Monday to Saturday, you will work through an AM gratitude activity and a PM reflection activity. These activities are consistent, creating rituals throughout your day. Ritual becomes habit, thus helping you make gratitude and reflection a daily practice.

On Sunday, you will work through a dedication activity that helps you focus your energy on the things you’d like to move towards and away from in your life. On the same day, you will work through a depth activity—a longer question prompt that will hopefully encourage you to engage in a deeper form of self-reflection.

How ritual becomes habit

4 pillars of becoming

Gratitude (AM)

Each morning, write a list of the things you are grateful for.

Fostering gratitude is a scientifically proven way to restructure our minds and perceptions of our lives. Gratitude helps us to appreciate what we have instead of always reaching for something new in the hopes that it will make us happier or thinking that we can’t feel satisfied until every physical and material need of ours is met. Gratitude helps us refocus on what we have instead of what we lack. Although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice, making it a beautiful addition to our daily rituals.

Energy (PM)

Each evening, write a list of energy drainers and energy givers.

Life is full of distractions that can often detach us from our feelings. When we sit down and ask ourselves what truly brought joy into our lives during our days and mirror it by also asking ourselves to be honest about what drained us, we acknowledge those things. In writing these things down, we can start to see patterns. What constantly fills you up? What constantly drains you? Let your energy flow towards what fills you up and away from what drains you.

Dedication

Write a list of things you want to move towards and a second list of things you want to move away from.

Look back throughout your week. Come to terms with where you want your energy to flow towards and what you’d like to start moving it away from. This page is important because it is where we make a promise to ourselves and acknowledge what we would like to change as we move forward into a new week.

Depth

Take this day to dig a little deeper. Answer a question prompt, all of which are intended to help you be more vulnerable with yourself.

Vulnerability is beauty. Being honest with ourselves about how we feel allows us to work through deeper work that ultimately allows us to know ourselves, trust ourselves, and forgive ourselves. These prompts were designed to create moments of healing in your life, moments of clarity, and moments of tenderness. They were created to help you come back home to yourself.
