Maybe if you
let me be
your lover…
These poems are not a direct translation from Spanish to English. There are words in Spanish that hold so much beauty and meaning in a way that does not translate into English. This way, I have kept the essence of my poetry.
Much love, Melissa.
From the author
At seventeen, I believed life truly began with my first orgasm—the moment I made love for the first time. In the innocence of youth, I pretended to be in love, but it was a mere illusion. My heart felt cursed, weighed down by a string of bad luck, prompting me to pack my things and leave my family and the sea behind for the chaos of the city.
As my life spiraled into complexity, a quiet voice within urged me, "Love yourself." I learned to stop affection seeking on others’ lips, realizing that the pain, chaos, and love around me became my greatest inspiration. In the midst of turmoil, I finally found calm.
Now, ten years later, I hold dear the camera that captured my first photograph. Like a butterfly, which cannot see its own wings, I use my lens to reflect the beauty within others, showing the unique grace we often overlook. Through my art, I celebrate the profound strength and beauty that exists in every human story.
