Honey is a fantastic condiment to smear all over your face. It’s hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture well, keeping the skin hydrated and aiding in scar healing; antimicrobial, meaning it limits bacteria and, by extension, acne; and it’s teeming with antioxidants, which help to reverse the signs of aging and protect damaged skin. Manuka honey is identical to regular honey, if regular honey were actually Lance Armstrong two years ago—that is to say, honey on steroids. And there are a host of ways to use it on your skin. Mixed with raw sugar and olive oil, it makes a great face exfoliator. Or for something less harsh, mix ¼ cup o honey with ½ teaspoon of both cinnamon and nutmeg for a calming, anti-inflammatory mask.
